Lionel Messi and father sentenced to 21 months in jail over tax charges

Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi and his father have been sentenced to 21 months in jail on tax charges. A Spanish court has said the sentences for the 29-year-old Argentina striker can be appealed through the country's Supreme Court. Messi has been fined two million euros.

His father was given the same jail sentence and a fine of 1.5 million euros.

In Spain, sentences of less than two years for first offences are suspended, meaning neither man will go to jail.
